FG and ASUU meeting ends in deadlock
A meeting convened between the Federal government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU on Tuesday, August 16, ended in a deadlock, an indication that the ongoing industrial action may not be ending anytime soon.
Recall that ASUU president, Emmanuel Osodeke had in a television interview on Monday, August 15 disclosed that the union would be meeting with representatives of the federal government on August 16 to resolve the strike issue.
However, after meeting with the Professor Nimi Briggs committee for about three hours at the National University Commission in Abuja, the gathering had no positive result.
According to the leadership of the union who attended the meeting, the Federal government delegation did not come up with any new offer to the table except to beg the lecturers to call off the strike with promises that their demands will be included in the 2023 budget.
