INEC to review use of BIVAS in subsequent election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is to review and improve the functionality of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BIVAS before the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun Governorship Election and the 2023 General Election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this during a meeting with the Thirty Seven Resident Electoral Commissioners across the country in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu explained that Optimal functionality of the device was acknowledged while its introduction into recent Governorship Election in Anambra state and that of FCT Area Council Election was also adjudged by observers as credible.
According to the INEC Chairman, the commission remains convinced that the deployment of the technology will ensure electoral credibility than the manual process.
He noted that in order to provide more eligible voters with an opportunity to register, the Commission was considering devolution of the ongoing Voter Registration exercise beyond states and local government offices where the registration was currently taking place.
The INEC Boss however solicited the support of stakeholders in strengthening the nation’s Electoral System.
