Kunle Afolayan was born on the 30th of September 1974. The Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and director were born in Ebute Meta, Lagos State, in the SouthWest region of Nigeria, although initially hailing from Kwara state.
He is from Kwara State, an Igbomina tribe, a small ethnic group with a Yoruba heritage. He is the son of the late Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan, aka Ade Love, a renowned theatrical and cinema director. Before filmmaking became his thing, he studied finance at New York Film Academy and later began his work as a banker while acting on the side. Kunle Afolayan married Tolu Afolayan, and the couple had four children. Their marriage hit the rocks in 2019 after a cheating allegation.

Kunle’s first-ever appearance was at the Subversive Film Festival in 2011 to represent the Nigerian Film Industry. Before then, he had been involved with the Nollywood industry since 2005. He starred in one of his first movies, “Phone Swap,” with actors like Wale Ojo, Joke Silva, Nse Ikpe-Etim, and Chike Okpala. The movie made its French debut at the inaugural Nollywood Week Paris in May 2013 and won the Public Choice Award.
