Oba Rilwan Akiolu ascended the throne as the Eleko of Eko in 2003. And since then, he has been ruling in majesty. His full name is Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu. Born on 29 October 1943, the king was born and raised in the city of Lagos.
The Oba of Lagos has his education in Lagos State. He attended Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Surulere, Lagos from 1961 to 1965. Subsequent to his high school education, he proceeded to the University of Lagos (Akoka Campus) to study Law, receiving his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B).

Oba Rilwan Akiolu has a lengthy career in the corporate world before he began his rulership as the Eleko of Eko. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1970 and served for about 32 years. He worked in several capacities and was promoted at different times until he became the assistant inspector-general of the Police in 1999. He actively served in the Nigerian police force until 2002 when he retired.
The Oba of Lagos is also a member of various prestigious organizations. Some of these are the Nigerian Institute of Management and a fellow of the Nigerian Law School.
