RSU students protest against ‘no fees, no exams’ policy
Aggrieved final-year students of the Rivers State University, staged a protest against the school management over a newly introduced policy of “no school fees, no examination.”
The examination started on Monday, October 24, with final-year students, and those who were unable to pay their school fees were asked to leave the examination halls. Angered by this, the students trooped out in their numbers on Tuesday, October 25, to protest against the policy.
They carried placards and protested along the highway while calling on the state government’s intervention and to see that the policy is reversed.
One of the protesters revealed that he is unable to pay his fees because his father who is a pensioner has not been paid by the state government for months, and he has promised to sell his only plot of land in the village to pay the fees during his final year clearance. He further called on the state government to support the students in their trying times.
