RUGIPO student remanded in prison for attempted r*pe
A student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State has been remanded in the Owo correctional facility for allegedly attempting to rape a lady at gunpoint and extortion.
19-year-old Adebanji Abiodun Fisaya, a student of the Department of Public Administration was said to have attempted to rape another female student, Salaja Florence, at gunpoint on September 28, 2022.
It was gathered that Adebanji accosted Florence at the institution’s main gate at about 3:45 pm on the said day, and whisked her away at gunpoint to a hotel at Isuada in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
He was alleged to have beaten the victim when she resisted entering the hotel room and forced her in at gunpoint. It was further alleged that Florence was forced to strip at gunpoint, but Adebanji could not rape her because she was on her menstrual circle.
Having failed on the rape attempt, he was alleged to have snapped Florence while she was naked, and threatened to send the pictures to social media if she refused to transfer a sum of N100, 000 to his Wema Bank account which he forwarded to her.
He was also said to have forcefully removed a sum N30, 000 from the victim’s wallet before setting her free.
However, Adebanji who had no attorney to handle his case pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
