Strike: FG directs universities to seek funding from charity organisations

The minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has asked the governing councils of public universities in the country to approach charity organizations and individuals for the additional funding needs for projects in their institutions.

The minister gave the advice in Abuja on Thursday, September 8, during the inauguration of the governing councils for the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi and the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru.

Adamu who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Goodluck Opiah, said the government was desirous of bringing in more private sector participation in tertiary education due to the economic hardship it is currently facing.

He urged the council members to look outside of the government allocation and map out plans and ideas that can create more revenue to sustain their effective operations, including endowment funds.
